biography

juliana españa keller is an interdisciplinary artist who brings art and life together.

Originally born on British soil of Spanish and Scottish descent and growing up in and around a New York attitude, now lives and works in Montréal, Quebéc, Canada.

Juliana enjoys curating and has collaborated in various exhibitions in Montreal with such notable artists as “William Pope L.”, Galerie VAV Gallery, 1999; the Montreal collective artists exhibition, “"Separate Rooms"” at the Delta Hotel in 2000, "The Transpecies Collective”", a contemporary drawing show in 2003 and most recently "DETOUR", May of 2006 at the CEDX Student Gallery that is part of the University of Quebec in Montreal.

In 2003, she participated in an international residency with British artist, Gillian Wearing at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, USA. A video created in the residency was included in a compilation entitled "BAMBI"”presented thereafter at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, USA alongside a Wearing retrospective.

In the same year, she traveled to Mexico City for an exhibition with fellow Québec artists on a grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. This participation was organized as a cultural exchange project entitled “"Voila Québec" between Mexico and Québec .

In 2005 she curated two projects in collaboration with Galerie Articule and Galerie Art Mûr in Montreal and her work was presented in international venues such as "RAW: Operation Rapid American Withdrawal" at the Ice Box Project Space, Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe, Philadelphia, USA, "causa y efecto", Galeria Nina Menocal, Mexico City, Mexico and "Parameters of Fear", Muu Gallery in Helsinki Finland. Her solo exhibition "curio (curious moments)" was presented at Galerie Art Mûr in Montreal in October of 2005. She was also thereafter, a participant in the 2005 Toronto Art Fair.

Juliana has an upcoming group exhibition entitled: "Gravity" in April of 2007 with Vox Populi Gallery in Philadelphia. In November of 2006, she presented a solo initiative and created a new performance work for 300m3 Art Space in Göteburg, Sweden and lectured/visited students of the Context and Media Program at Valand University. She also participated in VideoLAB Festival Coimbra 2006 in Portugal last year and she is now starting up a new season of podcasting in 2007, joining Paul Litherland, co-host of SWIVEL, a podcast on and for visual artists of Montreal.
